Privacy & Security
How we protect your data and ensure secure transactions.
Our Commitment to Data Protection
VIN Detector is fully committed to protecting your personal data. We comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable national data protection laws. We collect only the data needed to provide our services, and we never sell personal information to third parties. You can review our full Privacy Policy for the details on how we handle your data.
How We Secure Your Transactions
Your data is protected in transit and payment processing is handled by certified, trusted providers - VIN Detector never stores your full card details. Our infrastructure is hosted within the European Union.
Account Security
We strongly recommend a unique, strong password for your VIN Detector account. Where available, enabling additional sign-in protection adds another layer of security - especially for business accounts with multiple users. You can review and sign out of active sessions from your account settings, and we'll let you know if we notice a sign-in that looks unusual.
Vehicle Data and Personal Privacy
VIN Detector reports contain vehicle history data, not personal data about previous owners. We do not disclose names, addresses, or contact details of current or former vehicle owners. The information in our reports (mileage readings, inspection results, damage records) is sourced from official registries and industry databases that publish vehicle-level data for consumer protection purposes, in accordance with applicable laws.
Your Rights Under GDPR
As a user of VIN Detector, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate data, request deletion of your data (right to be forgotten), restrict or object to processing of your data, and receive your data in a portable format. To exercise any of these rights, contact our Data Protection Officer at the email address listed in our Privacy Policy. We respond to all requests within the legally required timeframe of 30 days.
Responsible Disclosure and Bug Bounty
We take security seriously. If you believe you've found a potential security issue in our platform, please get in touch with our team and we'll review it. We don't pursue legal action against researchers who report issues in good faith, and confirmed issues are addressed as a priority.
